Nostalgia

 His ‘google photos’ threw up pics from old days as memories for the day. Of him, and his ex, and a few other friends. His mind wandered back. As a coincidence, that day, two other couples had rung in and asked if they could drop in.  

Having just celebrated their anniversary of togetherness, love was still thick in the air, and they readily agreed to have friends over for a few drinks. Since the house was recently done up, everyone took turns to get themselves clicked with the painting he had recently made and hung over the wall. Those pics today stirred something in him. He sent some of the pics to one of the couples that had come calling. The other couple - just like he and his ex - had parted ways. 

The response came almost immediately. Not a message but a call. Both the husband and wife were speaking animatedly over the speaker, “Wow! It’s been such a long time”. 

“Yes, it was ten years ago!”

“Ten years! No wonder I look so weird in the pic”, quips the wife. 

“Not that she’s any less weird now”, rubs in the husband. 

“A different kind of weird maybe”, he says. They all share the laughter. 

“Only after having moved away from the country have we realised how much we miss hanging out with you”, says the wife. And the husband adds in his approval. 

“We get busy with our lives, and think we could meet another day, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week; but that another day never comes”, he says wistfully. The couple agree.
